Actually, I think garter stitch is square if you do 20 stitches and 40 rows because the rows kind of lay on top of each other. So when you pick up stitches, you should pick up one stitch for each ridge, which would work out to 1 stitch for every other row. But the colours are beautiful and the shape is..."interesting"? I'm glad you see to have a sense of humour about it; it happens to all of us. -christina

Hmm, wonder what went wrong? Those usually work out OK. Must have been an issue with picking up the stitches. Maybe you didn't do enough on that long side...oh well, the cat loves it.
